Found In Books

Thought I'd share these bits of ephemera found in books brought home from my last thrift shop run. Sometimes these treasures are the best part of the book as they lend little hints of their past. The folded paper turned out to be a test (I think) tucked away in a old pharmaceutical book. I'll share the book with you later on this week as it has wonderful imagery.

Grand Ol' Trunk Thrift Shop

The Grand Ol' Trunk Thrift Shop of Manhattan, Kansas is one of my all-time favorite thrifting haunts (and I've been to a lot). This family owned second-hand establishment always has a great selection of stuff as their roadside marquee pronounces. Tucked away behind the main building is a little house turned bookstore (see last image) that is stuffed to the gills with old, used and vintage books. I never walk away from the Grand Ol' Trunk empty handed--it's every thrifter's dream.

Eccentric Art Blocks

Much of my weekend was spent concocting an assortment of eccentric art blocks for the shop. Several more of these will be posted throughout the week as I find time to stitch them up. Enjoy!

It Is Autumn

It is autumn. Yes indeed (allergies and all)! No signs of the leaves turning yet but I think we'll go on a long walk this first weekend of fall to see if we can find any. The image above is from The Brownie Primer by N. Moore Banta, 1924. Have a beautiful weekend!

Plastic Statuettes

This box full of plastic statuettes arrived in the mail yesterday. An instant boost to my ever-evolving collection of religious paraphernalia.

Doll House Giveaway Winner

Lizzie did the honors and drew the winner's name out of a basket. And the winner of Doll House no 333 is Cat (aka Carla Trujillo), a very talented mixed media artist! Congratulations Carla--you'll receive an email from me in a few minutes so I can send this Doll House to her new home! Thank you to everyone who participated in the giveaway.

Doll House no 351

Just in time for the upcoming season of spooks, Doll House no 351 (with skeleton). Enjoy!

One Last Barbecue

Despite a long "to-do" list this weekend we managed to work in one last summer barbecue. The autumnal equinox arrives this week for those of us living on the Northern Hemisphere so there aren't too many days left for bare feet!

PS: A reminder that Sushipot's BOGO Sale ends tonight AND don't forget to sign up for the Doll House Giveaway.

French Portrait Plaques

I finally decided to do something with these postcards and listed a pair of French portrait plaques in the shop last night. Jeanne D'Arc and Comtesse D'Artois are the first of these portraits but more are in the works. Have a beautiful weekend!

Sushipot BOGO Sale

Yes--it's true--I'm having a BOGO Sale at Sushipot to celebrate my 4th Etsyversary. This is the first time I've offered a sale of this sort so we'll see how it goes. I wanted a way to say "thank you" to all my patrons and what better way than more of what you love?! So as of today all of the single art blocks (sorry--no sets or custom work!) and pendants are Buy One Get One Free.

Also, don't forget to sign up for the Doll House giveaway if you haven't already!

Objects Of Play

A glimpse of several nostalgic "objects of play" posted in the shop recently. The above collection of red-rimmed tin saucers would be delightful displayed on a nursery wall.

Orange Birdhouse

Lizzie is very proud of the little orange birdhouse she painted this weekend and mounted to a tree (with Daddy's help) outside. Lots of birdseed has been tucked inside and she's hoping a lucky bird will discover it before flying south for winter.

Carousel Horse

This little guy was inspired by the many carousel rides we've enjoyed over the summer. He was also the cause of all these snippets. Enjoy!

Black & White

I'm still incessantly snapping pictures with my iphone and (according to Patrick) have overspent my app budget for the month. I finally purchased all the film packs for Hipstamatic including this black and white BlacKeys SuperGrain film. Happy Friday!

Little Tin Dishes

Every time I come across such well-loved little tin dishes I just cannot resist! Take a closer look at the Geisha set and the Flower Child set in the shop.

Brownies & Goblins

A lucky bid on ebay has made me the proud new owner of this 1915 children's primer by N. M. Banta entitled The Brownies and the Goblins. It is chockful of sweet, perturbing imagery--just the kind I love.

Halloween Blocks

The first installment of this year's mildly disturbing and creepy/cute Halloween collage blocks were posted in the shop over the weekend. I dare say I had a little too much fun creating these. Enjoy!
