Every year we add a little special something to our stash of holiday decorations and this year I convinced Patrick that it just had to be this collection of roly poly santas! I found them at Vintage Junque on Etsy and resisted the temptation for several weeks but when no one else snatched them up I gave in. They arrived yesterday and now that I've taken their family portrait I'll have Lizzie arrange them on the mantle. The problem is I'm already trolling Ebay for new family members--somebody help me!

A random assortment of snapshots from our Thanksgiving week. The tree was set up, stockings hung, a countdown-to-xmas paper chain was created, lots of goodies were baked and consumed, all of the special holiday books that only come out at this time of year were unearthed. In general, much fun was had by all!
The shops have been quite busy and I've a pile of orders to pack but before I sign off a reminder that Sushipot's Holiday Sale is continuing until midnight (CST) tonight. Enter coupon code, SUSHIPOT20, at checkout to receive 20% off your entire order.

I'm popping in to announce a holiday sale in BOTH of my shops, Sushipot and Sushipot Parts. Enter this coupon code, SUSHIPOT20, at checkout to receive 20% off your entire order! The sale begins now and will continue through Monday, November 29th, 11:59 PM CST . I just had to try out the newfangled coupon feature that Etsy introduced this week. Happy Holidays!
Wishing my American readers a Happy Thanksgiving today. This 1940's illustration is by the French illustrator, Jean de la Fontinelle. According to Google translator the caption reads, "The turkey and turkey waddle". We've decided to forgo the traditional repast of turkey today and baking a ham instead. But...before I start cooking I wanted to say I am thankful for every one of you blog readers!

Several miniature gourds have been adorning our mantle this autumn since we picked them up at the pumpkin patch in October. I realized I'd never shared these portraits I took of them (and Lizzie's pumpkin) last month. They will soon be replaced by other seasonal decorations. Time has indeed passed quickly during this busiest of seasons here at Sushipot.
This collection of antique tin saucers has been coming together all year--a piece purchased here and there. I've finally decided they work as collective grouping and have posted them in the shop to await the attention of someone who cannot live without them.

These Bargello patterns struck my fancy this week as I was browsing through vintage embroidery books purchased at a local used bookstore. The colors are perfect for this autumnal time of year.

Lots and lots of seed packets being parachuted down to the princesses who are feeding the birds in the HUGE orange birdhouse. Mixed media drawing by Lizzie Scott, age 5.

I ran across these fascinating digital images earlier this week at Junkculture. The series of work entitled "My Things" was created by the Chinese artist Hong Hao. The artist documented thousands of objects from his daily life by scanning them and transposing them into large scale digital collage. You can view more of these pieces here and read more about the artist's work here.

We installed a "new-to-us" old school chalkboard in our dining room tonight. Lizzie christened it with a drawing of Molly the horse eating hay and a note saying "don't forget lunch" to Patrick who tends to forget to bring his lunch to school some days. I don't think he'll forget the left over fried chicken tomorrow!

Passing A Message by Hollie Chastain
A beautiful video portrait of the collage artist Hollie Chastain, aka Dr. Kennedy Jones, was posted on Etsy's blog yesterday. I want to make sure you don't miss this one! You can read more about this Chattanooga-based artist on Etsy's accompanying article here and visit Hollie's blog to view more of her work.
