Lucky Dolls

Lizzie has been playing quite a bit with paper dolls recently. I pulled out my collection of paper dolls to show her the other day and thought I'd share some here while I was at it. These "Lucky Dolls" from Japan (circa 1950's-ish?) were her favorites. Their wonky offset perforations and vibrant coloring is totally endearing.

Paper Doll Prickly Plaques

Three French paper doll prickly plaques were photographed and posted in the shop today. A few more anatomical plaques should be ready tomorrow. My favorite of this trio is the 'lil beach-goer with the sand pail 'n red shoes.

French Paper Doll Plaques

I've been holding onto (hoarding?) some exquisite French paper doll plates. They are from the world renowned Imagerie d'Epinal, Imagerie Pellerin studios of France which date back to 1796. From what I can gather, this series of paper dolls, Poupées à Habiller, was created as a series of four plates published in the late 1800's. Since I recently discovered they were just the right size for my little plaques, I decided to stop hoarding and share a few of them via Prickly Plaques.

Merry & Happy

I picked up these handmade Christmas paper dolls earlier in the year at Miss Pickles Attic and have been saving them for a special day to share with you. The elfish looking Santa and sweet holly leaf girl along with a few of their cousins are part of our holiday decor this year.

Looking back on 2011 I have so much to be thankful for and smack at the top of the list is my gratitude for each Sushipot patron and blog reader. Thank you for supporting me and my family this year. Patrick, Lizzie and I send you wishes for a Merry Holiday and a Happy Christmas wherever you may be and however you may celebrate.

Hanky Doll

I was perusing Etsy late one night last week (totally unlike me I know!) and this charming little lady waved to me. Ohhhh, such a sweet n' folksy little hanky doll--I knew at once I must take a closer look. An even happier surprise to find she was created by Cali, an 11 year old middle schooler, who has set up her own Etsy shop with the encouragement of her Gramz, The Jewel Seeker. Cali has several more of these sweet hanky dolls in her shop, Cali Cakes Creations and I'm certain one will wave at you too!

Puppet Girls

I'm downright delighted by these 'puppet girls' Lizzie created. They've been entertaining both of us in the studio for the past couple days. Just in case you ever need one...an afghan draped over the back of a chair creates the perfect puppet stage. Miss Bluey, Miss Greeny, Miss Rainbowy, Miss Yellowy and Miss Redy will be amusing us all weekend with their antics I'm sure. Happy April and don't forget to steer clear of those April Fool's Day pranksters!

Darling Objects

We were out 'n about on Saturday and stopped into a small town antique store. I'm thrilled with the darling objects I discovered and am currently hemming and hawing over which to keep and which to share in the shop. There is one other treasure that I'm keeping for certain--stop back by tomorrow and I'll show it to you.

Ephemera Files

Take a peek inside my ephemera files (er....um...plastic drawers). As I find "special" pieces, that I think may work well on a Doll House or other assemblage, I file them in one of three drawers: anything anatomy related, cutesy stuff (paper dolls, etc), or the "other images" ephemera file. It's very sophisticated I know, but this system seems to work for me! All other scraps of paper floating in the studio are either tossed into the "to be cut up" box or the box of clippings ready for collage.
