Vintage Game Boxes

 

Been meaning to share this collection of vintage game boxes that I listed a couple weeks ago. They're currently en route to Istanbul, Turkey (I love the international community on Etsy!). My family played a lot of games when I growing up and now we play a lot of 'em with Lizzie. This past week she's been perfecting her Checker skills and almost beat me. One of these days she will.

Well I finally decided what to do with all those grocery snippets I'd painstakingly cut from my teetering pile of mid-century magazines. They transformed this 'ol cutting board into a quirky art object. Fun, fun.

Vintage Office Supplies

One thing Patrick and I have always enjoyed is browsing through office supply stores together. We love looking at the latest gadgets 'n Post It note designs and never leave without something.

I think Lizzie is following us down that path 'cuz the other day we stopped in at our local Hobby Lobby and she asked if we could plu-EEeaze stop into Staples which is right next door. She wanted to see if there were any new Sharpie colors available (her drawing tool of choice at the moment).

When it comes to Vintage (with a capital V!) office supplies we have become slightly obsessive. For instance...Patrick cannot turn down a working, vintage mechanical pencil. He has a collection of over 200!

Anyhow...all this to say I've put together a fun collection of retro office 'n art supply goodies for the shop--I even got Patrick to donate a couple of his pencils! Many of these items, including the retro green file box, were thrifted from my all time favorite thrift shop, The Bargain Barrel. If you ever stop in tell Kelsey I sent you!

A couple of old-school objects listed this week at Sushipot Parts. I picked up the tin spoons at a local antique shop and my Dad scored the clothespins at a yard sale in his neighborhood. Thanks Dad! Don't you just love their varied 'n weathered patinas?

Things Organized Neatly

My grocery blocks were featured on Things Organized Neatly yesterday. Oh how I love this blog by Austin Radcliffe! Yes, I've raved of it before right here. But...there are a bunch of new folks 'round here so if you've never visited this site be prepared to be sucked into the TON mindset. In no time at all you'll find yourself tweaking 'n arranging all the objects that surround you. Now that I've piqued your interest, here is a great interview that Imprint did with Austin about his blog and you don't wanna miss this article the New York Times featured earlier this year. Salesman Button Sampler

This old salesman sampler of buttons 'n buckles has been sitting in my studio for months and was finally placed in the shop. I kinda had to come to terms with letting it go to a true button collector. As you know, I love, love, love me some buttons but I'm more the sifting, sorting type of "collector" who loves to play with them and use them in my own projects. Of course, the OCDish side of me wants to just sit and admire the beautiful neatness of these pages! The Patent Button Company of Waterbury, Connecticut was founded way back in 1876. I found some interesting history on the company while surfing the interwebs but I just gotta say--they sure set their salesmen up for success--didn't they?

Thrifted Buttons

I thrifted another jar of buttons for $8.00. It is a weakness, I cannot resist them. Maybe I'll make another button board soon.

Happy Easter Weekend

Hopping back in to wish everyone a Happy Easter weekend! Not sure what these fellows are lookin' at--lined up like Peeps in a row--but I'm thinkin' their eying all those jellybeans and chocolate eggs. They may be trying to decide if they should run away 'cuz the New York Times has declared sugar as a toxic substance. I really shouldn't have read that article the week before the Easter bunny's arrival--it spoils all the fun.

Doll Face Collection

I must divulge that I'm slightly addicted to the blog Things Organized Neatly. It's inspiring to see so many others share my obsession with orderly compositions 'n details (*ahem*--there--I've just confessed to being OCD). And now...so that I can submit a new image over at TON I've photographed my collection of vintage doll/face/mask thingamajigs. I'm warning you though--if you haven't visited TON yet--you'll be sucked into this obsession too.
