Color Cubes

"Color cubes teach design, initiative, colors, concentration, symmetry, observation and patience", according to The Embossing Company of Albany, New York. This is the first time I've come across a complete set of these antique color cubes from the early 20th century. My favorite part of the packaging is the interior of the box lid featuring various pattern designs. You can take a closer look at this set here.

  1. I must admit, seeing this post made my day. I too have a set of these blocks. They were handed down to me by my late mother, and the story went that originally, they had been her great-grandmother's. As nearly as I can tell, my set is an early one, the Embossing Company logo on the box-top being in that uniquely 19th-Century typeface whose name - given that my favourite uncle was a printer his entire life - I should remember. I know I will be passing down my set to my daughter. I can just feel the history every time I open the box.

It's always nice to know you're not alone.
