Sewing Notions

Vintage Sewing Basket Full 'o Crafty Notions

I had planned to spend the weekend doing a bit of spring-y cleaning 'round my virtual shops and....I did! Both shops and this space have a new banner using snippets from 1950's newsprint (a fav of mine). The dust was swept out of the corners 'n off the shelves and I even spruced up my profile pages and re-addressed shop policies--all that nitty-gritty stuff that has been put on the back burner again and again. In addition to cleaning virtually, I did a bit of sorting and cleaning of inventory (including this sewing basket) for my newly re-named shop, Sushipot Vintage (it was time to cast off the old name of Sushipot Parts). AND...before I head off to bed for the night....a BIG thank you to everyone who came out to shop my pendant sale.

Blockville Village

We've been building little villages with these charming Blockville blocks by Halsam. When it comes to photographing toys for the shop, Lizzie is always eager to help set things up. I think she kinda likes having this rotating source of new 'old' toys to play with!

Patchwork Bunting

What to do with a beautiful but terribly tattered 'n threadbare quilt top? Make patchwork bunting of course! Snipping, starching, punching and stringing these 'lil bunting flags together was a nice break from other household duties over the weekend. Of course I've put aside some prime pieces to stitch up into pillow shams at a later date. For now, I'm offering these patchwork-y bunting strands in the vintage shop. These look pretty sweet hanging 'round the house if I do say so myself!

Speaking Of Blocks

And...speaking of blocks....here are a couple more sets that I've added to the virtual shelves of the vintage shop this week. Never seen anything like either of these before which is always a plus in my book. Unique alphabet block sets for artists and/or collectors!

Arranging Junk

Assorted rusty furniture wheels

Old photo print blocks

Chippy door hinges

I spent a lot of time this weekend sorting and arranging junk (errrr...found objects) for the vintage shop. More to come 'cuz I've got boxes 'n bins full of random goodness just waiting to be shared with you.

Embossed Alphabet Blocks

Playing with blocks never gets old to me and luckily I've got a job that enables this tendency quite a bit. I really enjoy photographing handsome objects such as this set of beautifully embossed alphabet blocks. I've kinda been drooling over the varied patinas on each surface so I thought I'd share several of sides of 'em.

Filling Drawers

Remember this metal cabinet I recently claimed for my studio? Thought you'd like to see the drawers are now filled up with inventory and a few of my rotating vintage collections. I didn't realize when we brought it home that each drawer slides out and removes easily--like those old school card catalog files in the library. This drawer-removal feature makes it super handy to quickly make up game parts and game ephemera packets for the vintage shop. All this stuff used to be stored in plastic totes, stacked on a shelf which worked ok but this is even spiffier and more efficient.

Veggies, Shells & 'Shrooms

I've been saving some of the best-est illustration plates from this French dictionary. Well...maybe I was tempted to hold onto them myself but have now posted them for sale in the spirit of freshening up the vintage shop for the new year. You can browse the available selection right here and I plan to post more throughout the week.
