Small World

Small World, mixed media assemblage in wooden box

I've been puzzling out this piece in the studio over the past week. These assemblages are diy puzzles for sure....trying to find the 'right' shape to fill each gap and dabbing paint here 'n there....an attempt to lend the illusion of balance to this small world.

Home Sweet Home no 3

Another puzzle-like piece with a Home Sweet Home theme. Looking back here are a couple of previous assemblages: Home Sweet Home no 1 and no 2. Some precious little treasures were included in this one.

Doll House no 390

Doll House no 390, mixed media assemblage

Hard to believe I'm approaching no 400 in this series. Doll House no 1 was created in 2006 and I blogged the precursors of this series in this post.

Fairy Village

Lizzie has occupied herself for hours over the past weeks creating a fairy village. Even daddy lent his technical skills to assist in building a tiny swing. Each morning the village is inspected for signs of the fairies activities. Every day berries are gathered, firewood re-stacked, fresh flowers strewn and stories are told.

Springfield Home

Our house-hunting excursion to Springfield, Missouri was a success. We viewed all sorts of houses....and I mean that literally.

Patrick did well navigating our new city. It helps that it's laid out like a big grid and we were armed with Google Maps.

Took a bit of time to explore one of the local parks and skip a few rocks on Lake Springfield.

We did our fair share of eating out at many of the fantastic local restaurants.

Lizzie finally got to visit a Krispy Kreme...Daddy's all-time favorite doughnut place!

Spent some time on campus and visited Strong Hall to see where Patrick will be working this Fall.

Lizzie says the back yard of our new home smells like a fairy garden 'cuz it's surrounded in honeysuckle.

Now time for the part I'm dreading.... p-a-c-k-i-n-g.

Cozy Spaces

We're headed to Springfield, Missouri tomorrow to scout out a new abode. I've spent the last 48 hours with the phone glued to my ear and have over a dozen places lined up for us to view. Crossing fingers we find a cozy home with studio space (for me!). These images are from a Stick 'Em Cutouts book by the Platt & Munk Company, 1939. Aren't they sweet?

And....here's a coupon code valid at either Sushipot or Sushipot Vintage. Enter HOUSEHUNTING at checkout for 25% off your purchase. See ya on the flip side sometime next week.

Home Sweet Home no 2

Home Sweet Home no 2, mixed media assemblage

Another version of this theatrical rendition of the "Home Sweet Home" theme. This one is more of a 'house-within-a-house-that-kinda-resembles-a-cuckoo-clock-without-the-clock'. Its even got a swingin' pendulum....

....tick-tock, tick-tock. Welcome 3rd week of 2013!

Home Sweet Home

This little piece morphed several times and finally took on the form of an old puppet theater. Don't read into it too much but don't we all live out our lives on some sort of stage? At least I cleaned up its act from the previous layout which had the words in ransom-type lettering, home sweet f***ing home, emblazoned across the top. Maybe I need therapy?

Blockville Village

We've been building little villages with these charming Blockville blocks by Halsam. When it comes to photographing toys for the shop, Lizzie is always eager to help set things up. I think she kinda likes having this rotating source of new 'old' toys to play with!

More Building Blocks

More architectural building blocks in the vintage shop this morning. These are definitely more on the neutral side of the color spectrum than this set I blogged a few months ago. Finding these treasures makes me happy. Enjoy!

Nesting Houses

This set of tiny nesting houses with inlaid details was a true lucky find. I've never seen any like them before! You can probably tell I had fun playing with them while I was photographing too. Aren't they the sweetest little things?

Sushipot Vignette no 24

Sushipot Vignette no 24 (objects on windowsill)

Each image in the Sushipot Vignette series is composed of a grouping of objects found in and around my home or studio. A pair of objects on the windowsill in my studio. Take a peek at previous images in my vignette series here.

Fluorescent Flowerpot

I never paid attention to this little house in our neighborhood until it was recently painted - now it's impossible not to notice! Seems like there are some renovations being done to the interior because a fluorescent flowerpot has been installed atop a dirt pile in the front yard. Talk about upcycling! We usually are driving by in a rush to the post office so Lizzie and I took a walk the other day with the camera in hand just so we could document this local beauty and share it with you.
