So Long Vintage

Vintage Children's Reader Illustration by Marguerite Davis

Well...this is kind of a happy/sad announcement for me to make...Sushipot Vintage will be closing at the end of this month. As much as I love finding and sharing vintage objects with y'all the time has come for me to move along and free myself from much of the "busywork" involved with keeping a well stocked vintage shop. So...if you've been eying anything now is the time to claim your treasure. Enter the coupon code SOLONGVINTAGE and you will receive 50% off your entire purchase. And...to all my vintage patrons who've made this shop such a success over the past years...my family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts to the tips of our toes!

Vintage Toy Telephone

My favorite find of the week (or the month for that matter!) is this old-school, handmade toy telephone. Press down on the little clapper and the bells makes a delightful 'ding'. It has the added bonus of a nice face too :-]

Pinecone Birds

All sorts of treasures are waiting patiently to be photographed for the vintage shop. My new studio is a wee bit smaller than my last space so I'm continuing to pare down what to keep and what to share. So....the big plan this week is to dust off the camera and get back to photographing more sweet treasures.

And...

And...it's June. When did that happen?

And...Patrick defended his dissertation today.
Lizzie is now calling him "Dr. Daddy" :)

And...we move to Springfield in 2 weeks.
Time to get cracking with the packing!

And...today also marks our 13th wedding anniversary.

And...the moving sale at Sushipot Vintage continues for now.

And...I'm going to take a little break from this space 'til next month.

And...I wish you a Happy June :)

See you soon.

Sushipot Vintage Moving Sale

Packing is in full swing as we'll be moving in just about three weeks. I've decided it would be nice to move with less inventory so we're having a BIG Sushipot Vintage moving sale!

Thank you Lizzie for the chalkboard sign ;)

Stick Figure Family

Popping in to share some eye candy with you on a Sunday afternoon. I could not resist picking up this darling stick figure family for the vintage shop. Lizzie says they're 'cute as a button' and I have to agree. Lucky for us we get to enjoy their company 'till they find a new home ;)

Mother Goose Toy

A wooden stacking toy of the endearing Mother Goose is my hands-down favorite find brought home from this recent excursion. She's aged to perfection dontcha think?!

Play Time

Play Time, an Etsy treasury by Yours Truely

April means more walks, more visits to the park, more time with the windows flung open (both in car & house) and in general it means....more play time! A happy month of April to you ;)

Vintage Kitchen Collection

All sorts of odds 'n ends are being gathered together to form "collections" for the shop. I'm determined to leave Kansas with less stuff than I moved here with 5 years ago--in home AND studio. Anyone who's seen my studio knows this is a TALL order (right Patrick?!). Lizzie jumped in on the action contributed her toy rolling pin to this kitchen collection. She's saving up money for more Legos and will receive 1/10 of the profit when it sells  :)

Oh Snow Fun

Let's just say that many happy hours have been spent playing in the snow these past few days. The forecast calls for more snow tomorrow. Oh snow fun ;)

And...these, these and these are currently on sale over at Sushipot Vintage.

Pencils & Rulers

These two old-school collections are new in the shop for the weekend. Grubby pencils 'n scruffy rulers....little things I can never resist when I'm out thrifting.

Postal Pains

Illustration from a 1936 First Grade reader

Despite my best efforts to keep shipping rates reasonable, with only slight increases since I opened Sushipot back in 2006, the recent USPS rate hikes are causing me to adjust rates accordingly. I spent the weekend going through the tedium of creating new shipping formulas. Wrapping my head around the ridiculous rate hikes to Canada and all other international destinations is causing me severe postal pains. For instance, the cost of shipping a small package which weighs under 5 oz has basically doubled in cost. This means some items in the vintage shop suddenly cost as much or more to ship internationally than the cost of the item itself. Makes me feel a bit ridiculous but I do want to be up front with all of you loyal patrons about these changes. Luckily many of my domestic shipping rates remain the same. Please bear with me as I'll continue to tweak the shipping rates as I find discrepancies over the coming weeks. And please know that I will refund any crazy overages in your favor!

And on a related note...an interesting op-ed published in the New York Times last Friday.

Crying Onion Heads

My first quirky find of the year....anthropomorphic crying onions! Have you ever seen anything like this folksy pair? I sure hadn't so I snatched 'em up for the shop. Despite their thin skins (hahaha!) they'll be certain to liven up the kitchen of one lucky soul.

Etsy Vintage Toys

Speaking of vintage toys....there is a plethora of well-loved gems on Etsy. This afternoon I searched through my own shop favorites for the best ones I've discovered over the past months. Probably not time to get these before Christmas but ya never know. It doesn't hurt to ask!

As for me, I'm still shipping out Christmas goodies. The USPS postal shipping deadline for Priority Mail delivery on Xmas Eve is December 21st so here at Sushipot & Sushipot Vintage if you make a purchase by Friday morning (USA folks) I'll upgrade you to Priority Mail for no extra charge and ship the same day.

And...I want to say "Thank You" to each and everyone of you who sent Lizzie birthday messages via the blog and email. She has enjoyed these little notes and wants you to know she loves being eight years old :)

  4. Set of nesting cookie cutter stars from Germany

Oh La La

Oh la la, an Etsy treasury

One of my quirkiest clown finds to date--a pair of costumed erasers. This little treasure was inspiration for a fun Etsy treasury last week. Oh la la! I'm gonna tell Santa that these would make a great stocking stuffer for me ('cuz I've been so good this year).
