Wooden Spoons

I picked up this lovely collection of wooden spoons at Impulse 1672 a couple of weeks ago. A worn and sturdy assortment of the most basic kitchen implement....useful for stirring and serving. For now they are hanging out in the studio but may wander to the kitchen soon 'cuz I'm still trying to decide if I should add to the collection. And now here's some spoon-spiration for you on this last Monday of the month:

Do Your Thing

This inspiring video of a young entrepreneur named Caine was blogged by Jan over at Poppytalk last week. I thought I'd share it again here to make sure none of you miss out on this story of one child's creative determination and the encouragement he's received from his community for "doing his thing"--building his own arcade out of cardboard boxes. If you live in the Los Angeles area be sure to go buy a Fun Pass at Caine's Arcade! Or...if you live far away head over here to donate to Caine's Arcade Scholarship Fund. This kid is gonna go far doing his thing and I gotta say its an inspirational reminder to keep on creating and just Do Your Thing!

Clown Tiddly Winks

A while back I blogged about The Bargain Barrel, a favorite local thrifting spot. I had mentioned I kinda wanted to head back over there to retrieve this game of Tiddly Winks. Lucky for me, it was patiently waiting in the case when we stopped in last week. So...it looks like I'm heading into a serious clown phase...what with the clown finds last week and now this. I've even got a clown-y piece coming together in the studio. Talk about inspiration!

A Lovely Week

A bunch of snapshots from my Instagram feed this week and boy has it been a lovely week here in Kansas ('cept for that thunderstorm last night). Here's hoping for a beautiful weekend too!

My Box Of Books

My outing to our local library book sale this weekend was a big success. I spent a couple hours browsing and called it quits when I knew I couldn't carry any more back to the car.

I scored a good sized pile for Lizzie (mostly vintage!) including an Ed Emberley book (below) which I'll share in more detail on another day.

The one big purchase of the day at $5.00 was this 1915 publication titled Marvels of our Bodily Dwelling by Mrs. Mary Wood-Allen, M.D. The entire purchase was under $20.00 and I was given a Shiner Bock box to carry away all my loot.

Several books were chosen entirely for their flyleaf pattern.

As expected, I spent a lot of time in the crafty book section. The majority of my box was filled with books 'n booklets on a variety of arts n' handicrafts.

Check out this macrame couple! Someday I need a pair these hanging on my wall. Maybe Patrick would take up this crafty cause with me--I could totally see us knotting these up together (yeah right!).

Anyhow, now I have lots of new patterns to peruse and ideas to simmer.

Hipstamatic Vignettes

Last year I was taken to posting a weekly image of a vignette from around my home or studio. Unfortunately, the series of faux Polaroids died a quick death when Patrick and I gave each other iPhone's for our 10th anniversary this past summer. Long story short, I quickly fell in love with Hipstamatic. Anyhow, I realized I have many Hipstamatic vignettes from about my studio that I've never shared with you. So....enjoy!

Dear Uppercase,

Let me count the ways I love your pages. You are eye candy for my creative soul. My to-do lists vanish when you appear and so does my cabin fever. It's hard to concentrate on anything when you are sitting there waiting to be read and re-read. I'm seriously considering scheduling 4 vacation days a year. What have you done to me? I cannot grow tired of you. You will never end up in a recycling bin because you are beautiful & timeless. I will collect and keep you forever and ever.
