Spring Sale

I took a snapshot of this lone daffodil in our front yard a couple days ago. The next morning one of the neighbor's cats decided to sit on it but at least I got the picture, right?! Anyhow, I'm thinking since it's such a lovely time of year I should have a little shop sale to celebrate:

Welcome Spring

Welcome Spring! I'm a bit giddy over this recently acquired engraving of various moth species and their caterpillars. The hand-tinted beauty is from Der Schmetterlingsammler by Dr. Julius Hoffmann and was published in Stuttgart, Germany in 1887. After growing up in a tropical climate I'm always very ready to welcome this particular change of season.

Work In Progress

Popping in to share what's on my work table today. Two doll houses in progress...this is what they look like before applying their dark patina. Botanical and birth images for the eve of the vernal equinox.

March Art Blocks

We've been enjoying warm Springtime breezes and slightly longer days (thanks to daylight savings last weekend). I'm welcoming the real thing and am quite ready for my 'happy lamp' to collect dust 'til next winter. This month's art blocks have been steeped in all sorts of sunny thoughts :) They'll be in the shop today.

Spring Art Blocks

Can you believe it's already March? It snowed all day yesterday and I'm crossing fingers this is the last of the season 'cuz there are only 16 days till Spring! If you can't tell I'm in the mood for some balmy weather, pretty flowers and long walks. These fresh, springtime art blocks will be sprinkled into the shop today.

More January Blocks

As promised I'm back with another round of collage blocks. This grouping nods to the upcoming Valentine season and hints of Spring. Can you tell I'm beginning to tire of the roller coaster temperatures here in the Midwest? Gotta find creative ways to stave off impending cabin fever.

Dandelions

Yay for May! We've enjoyed many beautiful Spring days this past week and I'm in denial of tomorrow's forecast...2 inches of that cold, white stuff?? Maybe we'll head out and make dandelion chains in the snow. That would definitely be a first.

Spring Daffodils

Illustration from the April 1930 issue of Child Life magazine

Our favorite family poem is William Wordsworth's, "I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud". A lovely vision for this first day of Spring...

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
and twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
in such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
what wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Spring Bricolage

As promised there are some new Bricolage pieces in the shop this evening. We had another dusting of snow today but there are rumors of warmer weather later on in the week. I wore sandals to the park earlier this weekend....Lizzie says Mother Nature is teasing us....only 9 days 'til Spring.

Sunstroke Collage

I've been scruffling (new word anyone?!) around in piles of paper and old books. Trying my best to whittle down my collection. As a result there is lots of new collage coming down the pipeline this week including some Spring-ish bricolage pieces. I'm so in the mood for Spring...only 16 more days!

And...since I've got cabin fever I'm going to be "spring-cleaning" at Sushipot this week, a continuation of this plan. All of the art blocks will be marked 1/2 off 'till next Sunday, March 10th. Keep checking back as I'll try to round up some of the old stock and put 'em in too.

Happy Spring!

Even though we've been experiencing record warm temperatures for several weeks I'm still quite excited that today is officially Spring!! Our plans today include creating a Spring-time bucket list, a bit of crafty time in the studio and if it stops drizzling outside, a walk on our favorite trail. What are your Spring-y plans?

Duck & Frog Assemblage

Mr. Duck, mixed media assemblage

Mr. Frog, mixed media assemblage

Even though there are still a few weeks until the "official" start of spring, I'm already dreamin' of it and all its pizzazz (love that word!). Two lighthearted assemblages, Mr. Duck and Mr. Frog, are hanging out in the shop as of this morning. Are you dreaming of springtime too?

Slow Going

Our week has been sloooow going and I'm starting to feel a bit like that pink monkey in a cage. One thing's for sure--I've seen enough canned soup to last me well into next year! Luckily, only lingering remnants of our sniffles remain and every last Easter treat has been consumed. I'm ready to say good-bye to the chills 'n fever and hello to this warm, wiggle-your-toes-in-the-grass weekend.

Pure Kaleidoscope

Speaking of recently acquired crewelwork I must show you this incredible piece. In a spontaneous ebay bid I won this pure kaleidoscope of needlework. I was drawn to its color (who couldn't be?), its Springtimey-abstract-landscapish feel and most definitely my favorite part of many things....its backside. It didn't hurt that the project was started in the Spring of 1974 (my birth year) and I love the fact that it was completed over 4 years later and didn't become one of those unfinished projects that plague many makers of things. I would love to tell Christen Baldwin--wherever she is now--that the piece of needlework she painstakingly invested hours of stitching is being wholly admired and enjoyed by me and mine.

Cheery Crewel

Thought I would greet this new week by sharing a cheery crewelwork piece I picked up earlier in the month. How could I resist these sweet lovebirds? The piece was probably intended to become a pillow but now that it's mine it will be stuck in a frame and hung up in Lizzie's room.
