Valentine Art Blocks

The Christmas tree was dismantled earlier this week and our winter wear is being put to very good use. It seems like the perfect time to look ahead to sweet thoughts of love and friendship. If I do say so myself....these Valentine art blocks last much longer than a box of chocolates and they won't melt either.

More January Blocks

As promised I'm back with another round of collage blocks. This grouping nods to the upcoming Valentine season and hints of Spring. Can you tell I'm beginning to tire of the roller coaster temperatures here in the Midwest? Gotta find creative ways to stave off impending cabin fever.

Prickly Heart Plaque

This prickly plaque depicting the circulation of blood throughout the human body was posted in the shop this afternoon along with a couple of other anatomical heart plaques. Yep...still time to get one of 'em for Valentines Day next week (within the USA)....just place your order by Friday morning, February 8th.

Betty's Valentines

I've been saving these handmade Valentines for months with the intention of sharing them with you today. Each of the darling cards are inscribed to a girl named Betty--I'm thinking she must have saved them from a class party many years ago. Lucky for me she did as they are now a special part of my ephemera collection. My hands-down favorite is the clown Valentine but that anthropomorphic heart comes a close second. May you and your Valentine(s) have a very special day together!

1920's Valentine Scraps

First off I just wanna know where the heck the month of January went?! Did it completely pass you by too? I was still recovering from the holidays and then realized the month was over. Guess I'd better get it in gear (mentally speaking) at least. It's been kinda hard with the weirdly warm winter 'round these parts. The bank sign on the way to the post office today stated it was 66 degrees!

I did have grand plans to make up a whole bunch of Valentine-y ornaments and such for the shops but with 2 weeks 'till that special day I'm behind on those plans. I did manage to purchase these charming Valentine scraps to use in the pieces, but I think they will be added to the ephemera files for next year. These particular scraps were manufactured by the Carrington Company of Chicago, Illinois circa 1920's. Super sweet paper bits aren't they?

I've been gleaning my collection of old physiology textbooks for anatomical hearts. A couple of new doll houses (with hearts of course!) are in the shop. Valentine's Day is 'round the corner folks!

Valentine Vignettes

Don't you just love these old-school Valentine vignettes? This set of lovelies are from a booklet published by Doubl-Glo circa 1950's. We've sure had Valentines on our minds here at home. I've been receiving daily love notes from Lizzie and so has her daddy. All of her Valentines have been mailed off to their recipients and she's busy planning the special day and trying to guess what the "surprise" is that I told her we bought for her last night (big mistake 'cuz I'll be grilled for the next 72 hours I'm sure).

Prickly Plaques

Harvesting Hearts

A view of my workspace last night. I've been receiving a few patient inquiries as to whether or not I'll be posting new Doll House's with anatomical hearts for the upcoming season of love. So, last night I "harvested" a few hearts and began laying out some new pieces. Stay tuned for these new assemblages--there will be more than just your run-of-the-mill Doll House coming to the shop in the next week.

Tiger and Hearts

This Sunday marks the start of the Chinese New Year (2010: Year of the Tiger) and it's also another much awaited holiday in this house--Valentine's Day :)  I've been informed by Lizzie that our top priority this weekend is to bake pink cupcakes for Daddy and decorate them with many, many rainbow sprinkles. Crossing my fingers that I get to do a bit of thrifting too.

Sealed With A Kiss

Valentines are on my mind today. Lizzie spent the morning addressing valentines to her cousins and they are now in the mailbox awaiting our postman. Aren't these the sweetest little SWAK stamps ever? They were gleaned from a 1950's Doubl-Glo Valentines booklet.

Heart Art

Anatomy of the Heart is a complete grouping of 9 ephemera blocks created using images from a 1937 medical textbook. More of these large sets, both ephemera and collage blocks, will be posted in the shop throughout the coming weeks. Just keep an eye out :)
