French Paper Doll Plaques

I've been holding onto (hoarding?) some exquisite French paper doll plates. They are from the world renowned Imagerie d'Epinal, Imagerie Pellerin studios of France which date back to 1796. From what I can gather, this series of paper dolls, Poupées à Habiller, was created as a series of four plates published in the late 1800's. Since I recently discovered they were just the right size for my little plaques, I decided to stop hoarding and share a few of them via Prickly Plaques.

French Dictionary Art Blocks

This exquisite selection of imagery was gleaned from a 1923 French dictionary. Each illustration was carefully decoupaged onto a wooden block and voilà--new art blocks are in the shop. Enjoy!

1922 Larousse Universel

Metrique (Systeme)

Exquisite illustration plates from a 1922 volume of the French dictionary, Larousse Universel are now available in the shop. More plates will be added in the coming weeks so keep checking back. I've offered smaller versions of these from the Nouveau Petit Larousse previously but these are substantially larger at 11 1/2" x 8", including the borders. Take a peek here to view all the currently available plates.

French Portrait Postcards

This collection of postcards portraying historical figures of France caught my eye while browsing Etsy vintage late at night a few weeks ago. It was an impulse purchase (confession time!) at Journey and Landscape but one that I do not regret in the least. They are lovely postcards--printed on rich, creamy, deckled paper--and I'm to torn on whether to make use of them in my work or save for a day when I can afford to frame up the group in its entirety.
