Noah's Ark

Noah's Ark, collage on Janis Sue Rubenson's old 'The Magic Boat' book cover

I mulled over the arrangement of the animals for some time....to stack or pile was the BIG question. Finally decided that stacking 'em was too Town Musicians of Bremen-ish. I think Janis Sue would approve. The lettering was culled from this Christmas catalog.

Cat Assemblage

A cat piece for all you feline-lovers out there. Inspired by the mod cat pieces floating around Etsy like this and this and this. Meow.

Tomorrow I'll announce the winner for the dancing clock collage giveaway. If you haven't signed up yet...there's still time!

White Whale

White Whale, original mixed media assemblage

I listen to audio books while I work in the studio and am currently re-visiting the classic saga of Moby Dick. Figured it was a great way to kick off the New Year! Hope yours is off to a good start too. If you haven't already...be sure to enter the collage giveaway here.

Red-Nosed Reindeer

A festive pair of red-nosed reindeer with seriously over-sized schnozzles. The pink-antlered Rudolph is a wall piece and the other a holiday ornament.

Assemblage Critters

Welcoming a menagerie of critters into the shop today. All except for the little frog which I turned into a holiday ornie for our personal collection. Enjoy!

Animal Crackers

One of my guilty pleasures is animal crackers--not the plain kind--the pink 'n white iced ones with sprinkles. It's been years since I've indulged in a bag and I dare not bring any home lest I pass this obsession on to my daughter. She already has a weakness for anything with sprinkles on top! Take a peek at my lighthearted homage this guilty pleasure...Animal Crackers.

Fresh Collage Blocks

Finished up a fresh set of collage blocks this week and posted them in the shop last night. Remember this collection of splayed animals? I finally snipped them up as you can see in the "deer" block. Have a great weekend!

1922 Larousse Universel

Metrique (Systeme)

Exquisite illustration plates from a 1922 volume of the French dictionary, Larousse Universel are now available in the shop. More plates will be added in the coming weeks so keep checking back. I've offered smaller versions of these from the Nouveau Petit Larousse previously but these are substantially larger at 11 1/2" x 8", including the borders. Take a peek here to view all the currently available plates.

Paper Animals

I'm fascinated by these splayed animal figures I came across yesterday while clipping collage imagery. The bizarre silhouetted animal patterns are from a 1914 volume of amateur handicrafts for children. Thought you might enjoy them too.

The Uncle Wiggily Game

A highlight this weekend was a spontaneous outing to our favorite local thrift shop. My top find was this 1961 version of The Uncle Wiggily Game for a $1.50. The board game is a classic and will make for a fun family game night I'm certain. Happy Monday folks!

Popping in to say "Happy Year of the Rabbit" to all of my lovely readers who celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Animal Dominoes

This recent find of Victory animal dominoes was posted in the "parts" shop yesterday. The set is gently used although the box itself has seen better days. Enjoy!

New Assemblage & Collage

I spent the entire weekend in my studio (except for a couple trips to the pool). Several new pieces were added to the shop last night. All of these put this newsprint to good use. Enjoy!

Zoology Ephemera

Have you ever browsed through Inkpainter's shop on Etsy? It's a virtual treasure trove of old book plates and ephemera in many forms. There are currently over 3,000 items in his shop currently so be prepared to spend some time! I discovered these delicate Japanese zoology overlays there a few weeks ago. Still trying to decide whether to frame them or use in a collage.

Have a beautiful weekend.

Fun Finds

I've posted a selection of fun vintage finds over at Sushipotparts. This Changeable Charlie puzzle is a hoot and would make a great Father's Day gift!

A darling set of old-school animal alphabet letters.

And...a pair of Little Red Riding Hood objects. You have no excuse not to start a collection!

Birds & Animal Puzzles

A selection of antique bird and animal puzzles are available here. I've never seen any like these before. The heads are removable so you can match them with the correct creature or mix the species up a bit if you like.
