Oh how I adore these mid-century Jack-o-lanterns crafted of paper mache. Their goofy grins and buggy eyes
are hard to resist. Wishing you and yours a happy 'n spooky Halloween ;)

Raggedy Ann Assemblage
Raggedy Ann, mixed media assemblage
My mama heart strings were tugged a bit when Lizzie announced she was too old to dress up and go trick-or-treating this year. She's much more excited about the prospect of handing out candy to the neighborhood kiddos and seeing their costumes. I've been consoling myself by dressing up art dolls in the studio. Remember my little Raggedy Ann?

Little Red Phantasm
Growing up there was one particular book that gave me serious heebie-jeebies. It wasn't so much the story as it was the images....this was the volume. One particular page made me shiver....the big bad wolf in Grandmother's bed....something about those very glinty eyes and the pink nightcap. I would always avert my eyes as I walked past the bookshelf where it was innocently perched. From time to time I would poke it back in the recesses so as to hide it the spine from my view. Even more infrequently I would carefully slide it from the shelf and dare myself to read it.

September Blocks
There are only twelve days 'til the autumnal equinox and around six weeks to Halloween. This means my September offering of art blocks needed a spine-tingling vibe....that and I've been listening to this reading of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde while I cut and paste.

Raggedy Ann
The rain let up just in time for Raggedy Ann to go trick-or-treating this evening. I gotta say thank you to the Rountree neighborhood for an awesome first Halloween in Springfield....y'all outdid yourselves!

Trick-Or-Treat by Lizzie Scott, age 8 (click image to enlarge)
Happy Halloween friends! We're busy getting ready for this evening and crossing our fingers that the rain stops. Lizzie has decided on a Raggedy Ann costume....it's store bought as I lack patience for anything involving a sewing machine. I'll be sure to share pictures later on tonight or in the morning ;) Wishing all you little trick-or-treaters a safe and silly night!

Button Bear
My sieve collection just lost another member. I'm thinking this button bear dressed up a little early for trick-or-treating? There's already been an involved discussion about costume options in this house too.

Vintage Halloween Goodies
Yay....it's October! Only thirty more nights before the BIG night of spooks 'n all the sweets you can eat. The littlest person in this house is still weighing the most important decision of all--what to be?! She's narrowed it down to a clown, Little Red Riding Hood or a ghost. Feel free to cast a vote and I'll pass it along 'tho I can't promise all ballots will be weighed equally 'cuz at the end of the day she may re-write the ballot. hahaha.

Britt's Garden Acres
Last Friday was a fabulous (and blusterous as Lizzie kept saying!) Autumn day. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Britt's Garden Acres and managed to fill up our car with a great variety of pumpkins and gourds. Don't think we've ever had so many in one season before. In addition to pumpkin picking--we petted the farm animals (Patrick got a few too many pecks in a variety of places!), braved the corn maze and survived a bumpy hayride. A totally successful Fall day if I do say so myself!

More Anatomy Plaques

The quickly dwindling selection of anatomical prickly plaques has been replenished in the shop. You can view the current selection here. Yes...there is still time to add one of these to your Halloween decor!

Coulrophobia

Coulrophobia, mixed media assemblage
K. This is what happens when I stay up way past my bedtime tinkering in the studio. Not cool for anyone who may suffer from a fear of clowns. Luckily (as you know) I do not! That said--I do hope this little trick-or-treater finds a new home quickly 'cuz quite frankly he's a little too creepy even for me!
