4th Grade

We're getting into our 4th grade groove this week. This may or may not include splashing around in a fountain or two ;)

The 3rd Grade

Lizzie and I stepped into the back yard to document her passage into the 3rd grade! I apologize for the kid-pic heavy post but I couldn't choose just one ;)

It is truly a delight to learn with this little person every day.

We always take time out for a bit of twirling....or at least Lizzie does!

"Are we done yet Mom?!" (this one might be my fav)

And...more twirling.

Welcome to the 3rd grade Lizzie. I can't wait to see what we learn together this year!

School Desk Graffiti

We spent some time wandering around the KSU campus while my parents were visiting last week and peeked into the classroom where Patrick is teaching this summer. The room is filled with old school wooden desks like the one I brought home a couple years ago.

Since I had my trusty iPhone with me I snapped some pictures of the desktops to share with you. It is pretty fun to peruse the graffiti etched onto the surfaces by generations of (bored?) students.

Don't look too closely or you'll read a student's confession: I hate this class. Hope it's not one of Patrick's students. Hah!

Some have profound words: Every dog has its day.

Eyeballs 'n roses.

There were several Pac-Man doodles 'round the classroom but this one was my fav 'cuz it also proclaims 'Love Stinks!'.

I promise I didn't document every desktop in the room. Just a couple more...

Did you know that doodling helps you pay attention?

I wonder if JB drew that smiley face too?

I saved the best for last. The 'lil umbrella with all the raindrops takes the cake. Or maybe that small cry for 'help' in the top left hand corner?

Little ABC Book

My heart melted when I found this endearing Little ABC Book! From its jewel-toned cover to each brilliant red letter of the alphabet, I knew this was a treasure. After a bit of sleuthing, I've discovered that it was published by the McLoughlin Brothers of New York in the early 1880's. What sweet child turned the pages of this linen primer while learning their letters? It's tattered edges tell the tale of true love in its past for sure!

Number Garlands

I thrifted some old-school flashcards a while back 'cuz I was seduced by their retro colors. Lizzie helped me snip them up to create little number garlands for the shop. We've got an incredible pile of collage scraps now.

Our Mornings

We've been trying something new with our mornings this week (or rather I have). Realizing we seriously needed to "alter the dance" (aka balance) of our daily routine I decided not to turn on my computer until noon (yes...NOON!). Lizzie and I have spent the mornings strictly on her school work, reading and craft projects together. Little projects such as stitching on collage is not off limits for me as long as we're working together. It has been a nice change of pace and I'm planning to continue this next week--we'll see if the dance is altered. Wishing you and yours a beautiful weekend!

Back To School

Thought I would celebrate this back-to-school time of year by sharing a selection of vintage children's books/workbooks that I have in my collection. Happy Monday!

Old School

After the post office run yesterday I decided to make a quick stop at a hole-in-the-wall thrift shop that I hadn't perused for several months. Lucky for me they had just set out several old school classroom chairs that the university was discarding. After examining all of them I chose the sturdiest one with the most character.

It's in great condition especially after some dusting, polishing and scraping off the 9 wads of gum found under the desk and seat!

Am thinking I may scrounge up a pocket knife and add some of my own etchings to the desktop although Lizzie's already claimed it as her new drawing desk.

This week flew by! I'll see you back here on Monday morning.
